Skincare Tips

Skincare: If you tanning indoors, you probably use some type of tanning accelerator to help get the best color and keep your skin healthy. But what many don€™t realize, in order to achieve optimum results, it is crucial to maintain moist and healthy skin after tanning as well.
Immediately After UV Exposure: It can take up to 48 hours after UV exposure for your tan to fully develop. By moisturizing and re-hydrating right after UV exposure you help your skin boost collagen production, promote skin elasticity. help achieve the best and longest lasting tan possible.
While Bathing: When showering or bathing, select products designed to be gentle to the skin. Products with low Alkaline Base will help prevent drying of the skin and help keep your tan longer. Try Bath & Shower Gel Products, specifically designed for tanners needs. After Bathing: Use a moisturizer after bathing while the skin is still damp. Applying moisturizer to dry skin is of little use because it is not very easily absorbed. The result would be similar to putting hair conditioner on dry hair - you wouldn get an even absorption across the shaft of the hair.
After You Workout: When you workout you perspire. Consequently, your body loses moisture through the skin. Help keep your tan going by reapplying moisturizer after your workout. Don€™t have time, try rejuvenating Body Mist with Aloe Vera.
Drink Up: In order to complete the skincare picture, remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This re-hydrates tired & stressed out skin, helps clear up facial blemishes and helps shed unwanted pounds. So drink up and reap the benefits.
The Forces of Nature: There are many forces at work against keeping your skin healthy. During the winter, lack of humidity and the wind remove critical moisture from the skin. During the summer the suns rays, chlorine in the pool, the sand & salt at the beach all work again your skin. Be your skins friend and select a high quality moisturizer, something with no mineral oils to clog your pours. See a tanning consultant for recommendations.

Tanning Tips

Eye Protection: Eye Protection is a must! Consider it your ticket to admission at the salon. Your eyelids are the thinnest membranes on your body and need protection. The law requires that you tan with eye protection that meets federal guidelines for tanning.
Your Lips: Have no melanin and will not tan but they can burn, crack, blister, or peel. Take care of them with a SPF lip protection when tanning indoors and out.
Sensitive Areas: Tanning more sensitive areas requires extra precaution. Breasts, butts, and underarm areas to name a few can be more delicate. Shield these areas in the beginning and gradually expose them to the ultra-violet light during the first few sessions.
Medications: Some prescription drugs, like antibiotics, contraceptives, topical solutions, and even some foods can make your more sensitive to ultra-violet light. Please consult with your physician if you have questions and let the tanning consultant know.
Why Tan: With your skin being your body largest organ it makes sense to protect it. Many people tan indoors before going away on vacation to get a good base. In fact a tan is your body's own natural SPF of a 2 to 8 depending on your skin type. A good base in combination with a SPF helps many to guarantee a enjoyable burn free time.
You may also know of various health benefits associated with UV exposure, like the production of Vitamin D that helps prevent the bone diseases (osteoporosis), relief from the discomfort of psoriasis, SAD (seasonal affective disorder) to name a few. But due to the FDA regulations, the indoor tanning industry may not make any medical claims. The fact is light is essential to all life on earth. There are many reasons, physiological and psychological why a tan and exposure to UV light is desirable.

The Tanning Process

How Tanning Works

Tanning of the skin is a natural process that occurs when we are exposed to Ultraviolet, or UV light. UV light is divided into 3 spectrums: UVC, UVB, and UVA.

UVC gets almost totally blocked by the atmosphere and is not emitted by any properly maintained tanning equipment - so it€™s really a non-factor as far as tanning is concerned. UVB has a slightly longer wave lengths  and is responsible for stimulating the production of melanin. Only a small dose of UVB is needed, as too much of it can cause you to burn - which you never, ever want to do. Finally, UVA has the longest wavelength and is responsible for the browning or oxidation of your melanin. It is often referred to as the Ray€™.

So what happens, as you can see on the left, when the UVB hits your skin, your melanocytes go into overdrive and start producing melanin. Then the melanin starts to rise to the surface. As that occurs, the UVA rays react with the melanin and turn into a golden brown color that we call a tan. Tanning is a natural process that our body uses to build its own protection against Ultraviolet light.

Keep in mind, however, that with unpredictable outdoor conditions, you never know how much Ultraviolet rays you going to get. That increases your chances of burning quite dramatically. With indoor tanning, the beds, along with a professional tanning consultant, deliver the precise dose of UV Light to make sure that tanning is achieved as effectively and responsibly as possible.

Now with heat waves, you will hear a lot about High Performance Tanning and some people instantly think OH NO, THAT SOUNDS SCARY! Well it€™s not. In fact it quite the opposite. What High Performance REALLY means is we have the latest technology equipment that uses bulbs with Very Low UVB and Super High UVA that will deliver your results DRAMATICALLY faster, with much longer lasting results, and will be MUCH less likely to ever cause you to sunburn.

This is what our company has built its reputation on. We call it MAXIMUM RESULTS with MINIMUM EXPOSURE! We must forewarn you, however, that once you go HIGH PERFORMANCE, well... there just isn€™t going back to the ordinary!
